Phuket land prices have tripled since tsunami : Thailand Property

Land prices in Phuket have surprisingly tripled. According to Bangkok Post prices have increased by 14% each year since 2004. This figure shows that the tsunami in 2004 has not affected much on prices of Phuket property.
According to a survey done by Agency for Real Estate Affairs (AREA), land prices are the highest near Patong beach, which is around 180 million baht a rai. And the largest price increases are near Maprao and Por bays, which is about 500% up in the past 10 years.
Thailand property prices are in an increasing trend over the past 10 years in the wake of booming tourism. Mr Sopon Pornchokchai, president of AREA also predicted that the land prices would continue to increase especially on the resort island without any occasional setbacks on sluggish tourism or political strife.
